Yeah, scarry! But U got ur tweet out...

Dunne's Pecker Has Left the Building

Irish street singer, storyteller and busker, Patrick "Pecker" Dunne has died at the age of 80. From the Traveller community, he was known for his craic and powerful voice. He played the banjo and travelled the length and breadth of Ireland with his music.

In songs like Tinkers Lullaby and Last of the Travelling People, he in highlighted the discrimination and prejudice against the Traveller community by many Irish people. His best known song was O'Sullivans John recorded by the Dubliners and Johnny McEvoy. Dunne also played with stars Richard Harris and Stephen Rea in Gilles MacKinnon's 1996 film Trojan Eddie.

I first saw Pecker Dunne I first saw Pecker when he played a gig in the Glasslyn Inn, in
Bandon, Co. Cork. Apparently he'd recently gone on the wagon and thus
spent half of the night making fun of a few young drunks who were about
place. It was a pub after all. He played a few songs and told lots of stories
and jokes, it was a busy enough night alright.

The following day I was back busking, forsaking my usual spot by the AIB,
as the bank was closed on Saturday. I wasn't all that healthy, having had
more than a few the previous night, so I opted to busk right outside the
Glasslyn. Seamus would probably feed me a few of his great sandwiches,
when I took a break for a cup of tea.

A bit later, as I was singing away, the Pecker came out of the pub and
stood watching me. I finished the song and he just continued watching, so
I sang another one, one of my own. He nodded as I finished and without a
word dropped a couple of pound notes into the case. Won't sound like
much at all now, but for the Bandon streets it was a veritable fortune. He'd
certainly made me earn it but had paid up too.

Six years later, I was living in Clonakilty, fourteen miles west along, and
spending nearly every night doing sound in a well known music venue
named DeBarras. I'd met Pecker the previous time he'd gigged in
DeBarras, the previous year and had been amazed at the tone and timbre
of his strong voice. I'd almost had to turn his mic. volume off, so powerful
and resonant was his singing.

As I was sound checking, he asked me to tune his guitar, so I did and then
played a few bits and pieces to confirm the tuning. The guitar played
easily, and he said exactly the same thing he had on the previous
occaision I'd done sound for him.

"You play it better than me," he joked.
"Wouldn't be hard," I retorted. "You never play it anyway."
What I'd said was true, for during most gigs he didn't play the guitar at all
but stuck to the banjo and occasionally the fiddle.
"You can have it for three hundred pounds," he said, also exactly what
he'd said on that previous occasion.
"Hang on a minute pecker," I said as he took the guitar and placed it on
it's stand. I walked out to the front bar where Bobby was resting
momentarily between pulling pints.
"Sound check alright?" He asked.
"Yeh fine," I replied. "Almost finished."
"Bob," I continued after a few seconds. "Can I borrow two hundred quid off
you to buy Pecker's guitar."
Fair play to Bobby, he didn't have to think about it at all, just agreed and
went to the cash register and got it.
Taking the cash I went back to the back bar, where the live music was
played and handed Pecker three hundred pounds. He took it and nodded,
handing me the guitar, but then stating that I couldn't have the battery. He
wasn't joking, cause after the gig he took the battery out before giving me
the guitar, which meant loosening all the strings in that model.

We used it for years. I played it for about five and then after I bought a new
Yamaha acoustic when we were touring in China, Geertien used it. I took it
back later, when Geertien began playing more and more fiddle and
continued on until I purchased a new Takamine in Cork. Still have that
one, thanks Sibylle.

I met the Pecker a few times after that, he's a lovely guy. A man who had
time for everyone, sure he'd listen to anyone. Last news I heard of him
was that he was back in Waterford, think he was from that part of the
country originally. By now he's probably in Kilarney, buskin' with his kids.

When I left Ireland, I decided that the guitar should stay in Clonakilty and
it's now hanging on the wall at DeBarras, along with all that Noel
Redding/Jimi Hendrix stuff. More will appear on this page soon, including
a link to one of the Pecker's songs that I'll cover.

Thanks Bob and thanks Pecker, good luck to ye both.

In Celtic linguistics, chainnt or Irish word caint older spelling cainnt. "speech, talk". It is derived amongst the itinerant groups of people in  Ireland, hailing from Irish Gaelic. The Irish variant is simply termed "the Cant" or known to its speakers from the Irish Traveller community as Gammon. It is often used as a cryptolect to exclude outsiders from comprehending conversations between Travellers, Pecker Dunne and Maggie Barry used it often, especially when the shades were about or when they would have a drop of the people's whiskey not the yella bog water.

Poem For The Pecker (Dunne)

Gather round this cold night by the campfire, and i'll tell you a Tinkermans' tale,
All about a great singer of Ireland, who triumphed where many have failed.
Born into a nomadic lifestyle,a horse drawn trailer it was his abode,
And he travelled the lanes of ould Ireland, and he travelled the dusty old roads.

"Sullivans John" to the road you have gone,Pecker Dunne wrote at eleven years young
And that was the dawn of his music career, and his wonderful story begun.
For he travelled the byways and highways, and could be found on a bright sunny day,
Playing songs down at Croke of the travelling folk,at the games of the old G.A.A

Well he sang of the Myxomatosis and he told of the ould Morris van,
And the tale of the Thirty foot trailer, and the songs of the travelling man.
And he gave us the songs of his people, where others had feared for to speak,
And he spoke out 'gainst discrimination, and equal rights for his people did seek.

Well you'd find him not far from O'Callaghans Mills,in the famed banner county of Clare,
Down among all the horses and trailers at the world famous Spancil Hill fair.
And you'd find him out west into Galway and on the road up to Ballinasloe,
With his banjo and fiddle always close by at hand, for he always would put on a show.

Pecker drank with the great Richard Harris,a world renowned actor and drinker,
And starred in "The Good,Bad & Ugly",not bad for an old Wexford Tinker!!
And he knew Eli Wallach and Oliver Reed, and he acted with the man Stephen Rea,
But he never denied that great traveller pride,on the open road Peckers' heart lay.

Christy Moore never met with Bob Dylan, but he sang with the great Pecker Dunne,
So won't you come now to me little daughter, won't you come now to me little son.
For Pecker played with those brothers The Fureys, and Luke Kellys' own Dubliners' band,
With his own unique style that old banjo he played, and the greatest respect did command.

So always remember his music, and never then forget his face,
For he brought such joy unto his people, and he brought such pride unto his race.
For we are the Romany people, and in that we should suffer no shame,
Dunne,Barrett,Ward or other, travelling sister or brother, you should always take pride in your name.

So farewell to the tent and the trailer, and farewell to the old caravan,
And join me in praise of the great Pecker Dunne,of the Legend,Musician and Man.
For he shall be forever remembered, and his name it shall always live long,
Carried on by the travellers of Ireland,in their poems and in story and song.

Provos Give Limerick a Bad Name

abc

A former Provisional IRA sympathiser and his girlfriend have been arrested in connection with the killing of prison officer David Black who was also a member of the loyalist Orange Order. They have been detained by armed officers from the garda Special Branch, while a third arrest was made by the RUC/PSNI paramilitaries in Tyrone.

The couple were detained on the northside of Dublin yesterday morning with suspicions of being involved in the planning of the murder of Mr Black, a prison officer and orange loyalist, who was shot dead as he drove to work at Maghaberry jail.
The IRA confirmed it was responsible.

The Dublin suspects, aged 44 and 31, were questioned last night at Ballymun garda station about a logistical role in the operation.
Meanwhile Justice Minister Alan Shatter last night said  the Continuity IRA (CIRA) did not deserve the words "dissident" or "republican" which should be associated with them.He was speaking in a Leinster House debate after yesterday's disclosure in the Irish media that gardai had foiled a CIRA plot to kill a member of the British army in Limerick.

Gardai uncovered the plot during an intelligence gathering operation on when and where the IRA intended to kill their target. They also learned that a gun had was sourced and a hitman chosen. Shatter told Leinster House, there was an ongoing garda operation in Limerick aimed at halting the activities of a certain group, but would not comment on a specific case.

Fianna Fail justice spokesperson Niall Collins said the foiled attack was a "very chilling thought for all to comprehend and take on board" adding, "What we read this morning in the Irish Independent had potentially devastating consequences had it succeeded."  believing it would have inflicted extreme reputational damage on the Limerick area. Limerick formerly a British garrison town is now generally known as "stab city"  and the home of the robber bandits.(see video above)

Prison officer David Black who was killed as he drove along M1 on his way to Maghaberry jail in Northern Ireland.
A veteran prison officer in British Occupied Ireland whom republican paramilitaries killed in a drive-by shooting was also a member of the loyalist orange order it has emerged.

David Black was shot between Lurgan and Portadown had served in the prison service for 30 years. Black died at the scene from gunshot wounds when his black Audi car was raked with automatic gunfire at 7.30 a.m., at the M12 turn-off of the M1. A blue Toyota Camry with a Dublin registration drove up beside him while he was driving to work in Maghaberry prison which is at the centre of torture, internment without trial and Irish republican protests.

After Black was hit several times, his car veered off the road into a drainage ditch. The car used was later found burnt out nearby in the Inglewood area of Lurgan, County Armagh. Republican veterans who who emerged during the summer and an amalgam of disparate factions of independent armed republican units are believed responsible. This alliance is said to targeting prison officers as well as members of the British occupation in Ireland in recent months.

Black's career included working at Long Kesh concentration camp during the 1981 hunger strike while recently involved with imprisoning 41 republican prisoners belonging to the Continuity IRA in Maghaberry prison. Maghaberry has been at the centre of republican prisoner protests over strip-searching, torture, solitary confinement with some Irish POWs on a dirt protest.

Black was from Cookstown in Co Tyrone and was like many of his work colleagues a member of the Montober Orange Lodge, the loyalist marching institution. The Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland paid tribute to its colleague and said his only "crime, like many of those before him, was to wear the uniform." Edward Stevenson, the Grand Master of the Orange Order in Ireland, said that Black was the 337th member of the organisation killed by republican paramilitaries.

The Prison Officers' Association of Northern Ireland, Finlay Spratt, claimed the government had put his members in the firing line by reducing their security. "They have stripped away all the security around prison officers. They treat us now as if we live in normal society," he said. British Occupied Ireland's justice minister, David Ford confirmed, that a number of prison officers had been moved out of their homes after the PSNI received intelligence reports that groups like the Continuity IRA and the new IRA were targeting them for assassination.

CONVERSATION CENSORSHIT IN A FASCIST STATE

FREE MARIAN PRICE

FREE MARIAN PRICE

Her 'Internment' by Government constitutes corruption of Law, Denial of Justice, avoidance of trust, and absence of compassion for a very ill woman.
Mgr. Raymond Murray, former chaplain Armagh Prison.

Marian's health has continued to deteriorate as a consequence of many months of solitary confinement and neglect. She is being treated for several chronic illnesses and despite six months of medical intervention Marian remains gravely ill under guard in an isolated hospital unit.

Medical experts have stressed that her condition will not improve in an environment that is not conducive to recovery.

BLIND SHOTS AT A HIDDEN TARGET

Marian McGlinchey's health deteriorates whilst held in isolation even though not convicted of any offence.

British officials rely upon an alleged breach of licence conditions. Those conditions were removed by a Royal Pardon. She is unable to challenge the legitimacy of her detention as government officials assert that in 2010 they destroyed the only known copy of the Pardon. Marian was adamant that the RPM covered all offences BEFORE it was discovered that the document was missing from Buckingham Palace and Government archives.

As long ago as April 1980 she was released from prison as she was suffering from anorexia and mental health issues and freedom was granted to save her life.

The police rely upon secret information to justify her detention. The Defence will never have this evidence and she cannot make effective representations in respect of it.

Government officials revoked her licence after the Courts had deemed her fit for release.
This cannot continue.

Have amnesty international had anything to say about Marian Price??

I imagine it wouldn't make a difference to Patterson or Ford but have they drawn any attention to her case and treatment?

extracts from documents RE-MI5.

NO LOCAL ACCOUNTABILITY OVER NATIONAL SECURITY
Following the St Andrews talks the British government introduced two crucial Memorandums of Understandings (MoU) to ensure that Justice Minister David Ford and the Policing Board have no powers to scrutinise the actions of MI5.

Legislation in the first memorandum established that:

• The devolved Minister of Justice and Northern Ireland Assembly have no responsibility for any PSNI functions (past, present or future) that have any national security dimension, with the Secretary of State having sole responsibility.

• UK government will determine what information pertaining to national security can be shared [with the devolved Minister of Justice] and on what terms and that information on the modus operandi of MI5 and other agencies “will not be shared”

• NIO will retain ownership and control of access to all pre-devolution records while the Department of Justice will have no access to records relating to ‘national security’
"http://www.thedetail.tv/issues/154/caj-report-into-mi5/opaque-and-dangerously-unaccountable-the-verdict-on-mi5-five-years-on"

That's why everyone is being arrested and Interned, the old RUC Special Branch now Integrated into MI5, I knew Ex RUC Special Branch were employed at PSNI/RUC, well I thought I did, "They are there", working for MI5 and can withhold evidence from PSNI/RUC on security grounds.
If the above link is not clickable, Please copy and paste and read the full article. some off you may have more knowledge on this than I, but its the first time I have read this article. My conclusion is, The secret evidence is coming from the old ex RUC special Branch, which MI5 use to have anyone arrested and interned., and, they are accountable to No One. Its an Uphill fight now to get anyone released, sorry, but on reading this article you will come to the same conclusion. This same law applies to the UK mainland as well.

I've just read that 'it'sjust mackers'. There is no point in a policing board.

“The documents we have discovered show an obsession with keeping anything with the label ‘national security’ secret from our devolved institutions and a total indifference to accountability,” Mr Gormally said.

The second memorandum stated that:

• The Policing Board “has no role in national security matters or related

executive policing decisions.”

• Policing Board members questions on matters that “indirectly touch upon

national security” should not be answered if it might damage national

security interests.

• The Chief Constable should refer any such requests relating to “past, present

or future” national security to MI5 or the NIO.

• The Chief Constable must not tell the Policing Board any information from or

relating to MI5 without MI5’s authority to do so.

For 30 seconds I'lI buy into the line that Marians Royal Pardon got lost or accidentally shredded (could have happened). Then I keep remembering a poster called Dixie (stand to be corrected) pointed out at least several months ago that it has to be transcribed somewhere in Westminster.

Marian Price was released with a royal pardon on humanitarian grounds (same as Dolores) but Marians RP went awol!!!! Surely the only difference on the wording would be the names of Marian and Dolores. No one has disputed she has one.

Seems to me on face value at least, someone decided to make an example out of her (same as Gerry McGeough, Martin Corey.....WTF is closed evidence?????).

What is it with SF. Can't they accept constructive criticism from people who put their lives on the line for 'the cause'?

I hope I'm wide of the mark here. But a re-run of the troubles within 10yrs is on the cards unless the Folks on the Hill start showing leadership.

This is directly from Wiki.

Fusco was freed on bail on 21 March pending the outcome of his legal challenge, and in November 2000 the Irish government informed the High Court that it was no longer seeking to return him to Northern Ireland. This followed a statement from Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Peter Mandelson saying that "it is clearly anomalous to pursue the extradition of people who appear to qualify for early release under the Good Friday Agreement scheme, and who would, on making a successful application to the Sentence Review Commissioners, have little if any of their original prison sentence to serve". After the court hearing Fusco stated "I’m relieved it’s over", and that he would continue to live in Tralee with his family and work for Sinn Féin. In December 2000 Fusco and three other IRA members, including two other members of the M60 gang, were granted a Royal Prerogative of Mercy which allowed them to return to Northern Ireland without fear of prosecution.

Fair play to Angelo Fusco for being allowed to return home without the threat of jail over his head. If that rule can apply to him..Why not the rest of OTR's...?

We have wrote to Liz the brit "informing" her that one of her documents has been illegally destroyed or stolen i.e Marians pardon and we suggested that until it was either found or replaced Marian should be allowed to be freed on bail as per the courts decision .we have Buck palace,s reply hanging up in the bog here.. they sent our concern on to Downing st who in turn handed it to SOS Patterson(now Villiers) who said it really was nothing to do with him and passed it on to Ford who in turn passed it on to the parole commissioners who then said it was,nt really their decision and passed it back to Patterson.. this passing of the buck that passes for justice here is an example if needed how totally fucking useless the Ass-embly really is and who actually runs the show here ..

Frankie.

Thanks for that link, appreciated.

You are correct as to what Dixie posted, but it all boils down to the Old RUC/Special Branch and MI5, they are the ones who hold the so called SECRET EVIDENCE, There has to be a record of Marians Royal Pardon either in westminister/Buckingham Palace, Marian stated that her solicitor (now deceased) held it in front of her eyes and said, you have nothing more to worry about, I'm Baffled as to why he never made a copy , or, gave her the original document, but putting that aside, the dark work of the ex RUC Special Branch and MI5 has been at the heart of this so called LOSS, or, SHREDDED Royal Document, then they are admitting it existed. If you scroll to the very bottom of that page which you were reading, you can download the whole document 114 pages in PDF format, a lot of scary reading in the document, MI5/MI6 runs the whole of the British establishment, Cameron said to Mrs Finucane, If i were to say yes you can have a full public inquiry, there are people in these corridors who would prevent that, meaning MI5/MI6.

This will make you laugh, and, say, wtf, one law for Her and a different law for Marian, yet Both have been diagnosed with mental health problems, but Marian has more illnesses.
Fraud MP Margaret Moran given supervision order to have Mental health treatment at Southampton hospital for fraud, she claimed £53000 in expenses which she was not entitled to, she has never been on remand and escaped a prison sentence.
Marians solicitor should use this if possible as a reference.

Marty: MI5 and ex RUC special branch run the show.

So Marian Price is seriously ill, held in solitary confinement which adds to mental illness. While a former Labour MP gets a get of jail free card because she is suffering some form of mental illness. I still think she is in prison for one reason..Holding a paper at a rally.

Gerry McGeough is seriously ill in prison on a charge dating from around 1981 while Special Branch/Mi5 kill a laywer in 1989 are free

Loyalist can hold illegal protest, Republicans can't

Some republicans can print book's on the 'Troubles' and everyone is ok with that..While other republicans are either slated like Anthony, Richard o'Rawe etc... or sadly forced to take their own lives like Gearld Bradley because they put pen to paper

So is parity of esteem Orwellian (everybody is born equal but some are more equal that others)?
12:45 PM, December 15, 2012Reply
Marian has all but been physically and psychologically destroyed by a vindictive impersonal system for no reason other than her political beliefs. A proud Irish woman has been demoralised to the point of dispair whilst former friends and comrades have paid lip service to her plight. What value has one life, the happiness and wellbeing of one woman, if it does not suit the political needs of the party. The blind drive for power leaves no room for individual concerns or obstructive principles.

Anthony what happened in Cork on Thursday night is a continuation of the Bhroy Harrier mentality and heavy gang tatic,s of the late 70,s 80,s.but I would suggest this is now not just to suppress republicans, but to scare the fuck out of any other groups who may feel inclined to oppose the state especially in this time of austerity, the state really needs to keep their boot on the peoples necks, and those bastards in sb and uniform are only to willing to earn their pay..
