Meanwhile a 50-year-old man is critical after being kneecapped and shot in his stomach in Newry, Co Down. He was taken to hospital after the incident in the Parkhead Crescent area of the city shortly after 7pm on Saturday. An 80 year old man has been arrested in connection with the kneecapping/shooting and is being questioned by British paramilitary police.
Alliance Injustice Spokesperson Stew Dick said that he is "appalled" at the shooting."People have the right to live peacefully in their homes, without fear of being attacked."I completely condemn the actions of those who carried out this attack. They cannot justify their actions and will not be allowed to drag our society back to the dark days of the past."He said: "My thoughts are with the victim and his family and I urge anyone with information to come forward and contact the police immediately. All Newry's pensioners who are behind this incident, must be taken off our streets immediately." Brendan Curran hasn't said anything yet.
