FUKUSHIMA FUKuAMERICA

Published on 4 Oct 2013
Journalist, author, activist and historian Harvey Wasserman has been reporting on, and participating in, the nuclear free movement for decades. In that time, by his judgment, only one other event matches the danger to the world posed by the Cuban Missile Crisis. That event is the ongoing nuclear disaster at Fukushima.

Haven't heard about it in the corporate media? That's because the deadly and dying global nuclear industry and its allies don't want you to know.

That's why he has organized a petition drive to the UN advocating international expert oversight of, and participation in, management of the Fukushima crisis.

In this interview, he explains why we must all be involved in this world-historical challenge to human and planetary survival. Sign the petition here: http://petitions.moveon.org/sign/the-...

I agree with the transparency part for Fukushima and the entire industry but the can be no "moratoriums" there must be an end. We have to stop using and accept nuke speak. Arrest those responsible. We have ALWAYS warned about this so it isn't an accident! And thank you for this video, Arrest the NRC, IAEA, GE, the US, France etc. I am tired of folks blaming TEPCO and Japan! It is the fault of the entire nuclear industry which like tobacco isn't concerned with the future or humanity just money!

Tired of the dipshits that only see the world in dollars and sense-less. Capitalists that will destroy this planet to continue the fraud of fiat money, so some can believe in their minds that they're kings of the world. Will be no world left to be king of.

7:50 we don't believe Tepco, a private company is capable of doing this job.
Jct: Sure, we must focus all the world's resouces on the looming catastrophe. But where will you get the money to pay for the "survival of the human race?" The only hope is the Argentine Solution to provide the funding by governments to do the job. Hear anyone offering to pay maximum workers the maximum with bonds they can use for taxes, health care, power, licenses everyone else will want to take?

Building nuclear reactors in one of the most earthquake prone zones in the world does not show a lot of intelligence and no wonder those same people are now clueless now about how to avoid open-air fission. Japan does NOT know how to fix the spent nuclear rod pools without running water into the ocean and filling up tanks.

greedy tour and travel agents in my region of Southeast Asia are still exploiting gullible and ignorant tourists to go sightseeing in places around Fukushima.
the treats for those tours are to eat locally produced food by the farms around Fukushima. LOL.

I think we need to start arresting those who have caused this. It has been realistic eventuality all nuclear plants leak all the time. We have told them for 70 years we do not want nuclear. No more an accident than a drunk driver killing a bus load of school children. Fukushima was not only predictable but was really assured given it's location in the worst earthquake zone on the planet! One would have to be an idiot to believe no one could have predicted this!!!!! GREED alone caused this.

The people who 'did' this, should be the ones taxed to the eyeballs to fix this. This wasn't an ordinary tsunami, it was triggered by an earthquake that was set off because the Japanese government wouldn't 'pay up' to the cabal's threats. They are the only ones left with any money now anyway - the banksters.
We went the 'nuclear' route as the cabal knew it could be weaponized, when Thorium was a much better choice, but was unable to be weaponized. Cleaner, more abundant, better all round.

The cabal know they have a few more years left down here before they all start to leave this planet for the safety of other planets. Then they will return when it is deemed safe, to rule again over whoever made it through alive. They are not from this planet, they treat us like cattle. Now is the time for action but most people are still asleep watching soaps, and as the lamestream media never reported this, not many know about it or how dangerous it is even.

If you try to drive a political agenda, people are going to become alienated.
Right now the point is very simple: to get that plutonium out of there and into a safe space. Everything else needs to be shelved for future discussion.
This is a basic principle of disaster response. You don't get into arguments on the scene. You don't alienate people who can help.

UN Petition at avaaz.org (can't post the web address).... look for Campaigns. This is about UN action re Fukushima to set up an international group to: 1. prepare an innovative remediation plan 2. gather the appropriate and required resources for such remediation, drawing without limitation on funding from the entire world 3. streamline the operations at the site, working with Japan 4. provide regularly published progress reports including prevailing risks to the worldwide community.

Jcct: Calling for world action on Fukushima? Things are that bad? What action? "Tepco doesn't have the sufficient resources." Time to call for the Argentine Solution to fund the clean-up. Without coming up with the funding, call for help all you want! And there's nowhere to hide! Isn't it sad I'm the only person in the world suggesting how to fund the clean-up and no one's helping spread the Argentine Solution. Youtube for it. Yes, the world' resources should be focused. How with no money?

    • Dan Uhrbom
Yes, we must come together. Prof Higa was 2011-12 sprouting effective microbes, EM, on an agriculture area not far from Fukushima and the number of cesium 137 was going down to the levels which is recommended. Let us sprout this EM everywhere around the Earth every year from now. And people can drink 2 - 4 tbs in a glass of water every day, which will help people to increase the possibility to brake down problems. EM is cheap and are produced in around 50 countries around the world. Start now!

They have to let go of the anti-nuclear activism in trying to get attention to this.
      Why? Because it alienates people.
They have to leave behind those agendas, and get on with the job.
       ·
    • GabrielKundalini
What's the point, if these efforts aren't combined with simultaneously trying to end nuclear power permanently? This isn't a Fukushima problem. This is a worldwide problem. It could happen again under a variety of different scenarios. If a large enough solar flare knocks out the power grids for a month, then you will have 434 (the current number of nuclear reactors around the world) Fukushima scenarios going on, and then it's game over for life on Earth. We absolutely need to ban nuclear power.

I guess my (possibly naive) lack of concern over this issue -- more precisely, where this important issue belongs on the laundry list of environmental catastrophes facing this planet -- must be the same lack of concern that the vast majority of this planet feels about overpopulation. Yawn...

Why doesn't the Japanese government or Tepco sue the makers of the reactors, GE and Toshiba and hold them responsible for the mess?
       ·
    • matt whitton
I would think that focusing on getting the rods down safely with as much help as possible is priority one right now.IF we're all still alive and they get it done ..then people can waste energy on the blame game..first get this mess cleaned up!!

The Fukushima ELE is going to become the worldwide ELE as it in one way or another, knocks out the infrastructure that was keeping other nuclear power plants and whatever assorted reactors from going into meltdown themselves.
      A cascade of radioactive death.

Good summary of the serious situation existing at the Fukushima nuclear power plant facility.
(nb: Zirconium does NOT spontaneously burn when exposed to air. You need very high temperatures for that scenario to occur, and when the cores melted these temperatures were exceeded. Also when water is in contact with Zirconium alloy at high temperatures, hydrolysis of the water molecules occurs producing Oxygen and Hydrogen. Hence the hydrogen explosions post core melt)
