Republic is a standard form of government. It is based on the principle that there should be no monarch and the people of the state should be able to choose their own government. Machiavelli helped define the term republic by saying that there could only be one, either a government rule or a king’s rule. The people can elect someone who represents their interests. The word republic is used for governments who give people their rights and do not keep them under authority. Republic follows the constitution and ensures that the government does not forget the rights of the citizens given for equality.
With no monarch, most republics use the title president for the head of state. If the head of state of a republic is also the head of government, this is called as a presidential system. There are a number of forms of presidential government. In a full-presidential system, the president has the substantial authority and a central political role. In many states, the legislature is dominant and the presidential role is almost purely ceremonial and apolitical. These states are parliamentary republics and operate similar to constitutional monarchies with parliamentary systems where the power of the monarch is greatly restricted. In parliamentary systems, the prime minister is the head of the government, who exercises most of the power.
A Monarchy is a form of government in which power is actually or nominally embodied in individual ruling power or the monarch. It is a heredity political system wherein the people are not allowed to cast a vote for the monarch. The crown is passed from one generation to another. The word monarch comes from the Greek word monárkhēs which means to rule alone. In monarchy, it is necessary to be a part of royal family as it the children of the monarch who are in line for the title and the power. Monarchs use titles such as king, emperor, duke or duchess. They hold the title for life or until abdication. The monarch makes all the decisions for the state and the people. He is set different from all the other members of the state. All citizens are not treated equal in front of the law. Some people are given a higher preference based on their rank. Such as the higher officials act as if they are above law. The citizens can be considered giving the privilege of freedom and rights depending on the inclinations of the monarch.
There are two types of monarchy, absolute and constitutional. In a constitutional monarchy, power is isolated for the monarch in the constitution of the country. In an absolute monarchy, the royal family has supreme powers and it can participate in law making.
