FAKE FREEDOM FIGHTERS OF CAMOUFLAGED EGO

Below is an edited form, of the best article on fake freedom that I could find today, without its videos, but it covers the gist of it. I would like to preface it, by my own experience of freedom as best I can. If this bores you, just skip to the article. I have spent my whole life fighting for freedom, in one way or another to the best of my ability, most of it without success, until I reached a point of painful surrender within myself, where I was forced to undergo a major change and  to accept, that I couldn't do it by myself without divine intervention.

I had to start with myself and get real about who I really am and what I am really about, which was painful. It started with a coin that states, "This above all else, to thine own self(real self) be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou cannot then be false to any man." Now that is a lot easier said than done for someone as selfish as I am, who demands instant gratification to the extent that I  usually do with life's pleasures. We are blessed with Ego for healthy reasons but when it is fear driven, it can make us Ego maniacs which are abusive, something I know from bitter experience. Of course it is much easier for me, in the here and now to see this, away from day to day environment of hate and bitterness that is Occupied Ireland. When we become bitter, we lose the very same inspirational characteristics, that can turn cowards into heroes, which are part of the Irish Republican tradition

I believe I mentioned in a previous blog, that I was once sitting in an international 12 step meeting in Amsterdam years ago, where people were sharing their various neurosis, and everyone seemed to be laying the blame, on their various dysfunctional families of birth, scattered around the world in many countries, when a Limerick man with as little tolerance as me, in a very earnest manner, piped up,
"You fucking people think you have a problem with your dysfunctional families, what about me, I come from a dysfunctional fucking country.

In the many intervening years since, I have often thought about Jimmy's statement. Of course he was right in many respects but then how could it be any other way. Mother Ireland and her children have been raped ruthlessly for more than 800 years by both the Roman and British Empire and robbed of her rich heritage of the spiritual, cultural and the material. Fortunately we have had many warriors, who have also resisted for 800 years, and as result of that resistance, unlike many other fine races of people I have met, we are not totally emotionally broken or dead yet. The prize is not always what appears to be victory but what is learned, gained and experienced in the struggle. As a wise man once said the most valuable thing on this earth is experience. Long may it be so.

In the intervening years, as a result of my new path, I have experienced considerable joy and freedom. Unless our leaders personally experience freedom, how can they lead us there or even show us the correct path, that leads that way? It starts as an inside job. It starts with the truth within myself and the most important truth is not cerebral, at least not in my case, it is somewhere between my heart, Spirit or Soul. It is the Spirit of Freedom that Bobby Sands, obviously experienced, as he wrote within his prison cell. Perhaps the ultimate freedom is death and I sincerely hope for Bobby and his comrade's sake before and after him, that it is so, for their unselfishness, surely deserve it. I am not a religious person but I have experienced in a very real way, it's power, along with the power of belief.

Having said all of that, I am in no hurry to get there, because of the joys of life and the precious nature of it, that I am so grateful for. Freedom like the other important things in life, such as trust and quality, are, from my own experience earned. It appears sometimes to me, without being overly judgmental, that some people are content to remains as slaves, which can really anger me but perhaps I am mistaken. In our modern world as the tape above explains, in may instances, most of us are debt slaves. Like censorship, I detest the bankers or the money changers, as that famous Palestinian did. The bankers in the City of London, have been our masters for far too long but in the meantime, we are forced to a lesser or greater extent, to play the game. Anyone who has the illusion that the material is not a considerable factor, in the realm of freedom, I believe fools themselves.

I was fortunate enough to be involved in the creation of a film, with an English capitalist friend of mine, that won the Australian International Film Festival, as best drama feature, a number of years back and made a few bob with it. It enabled me to a certain extent, experience the material freedom and joys that come with it. I believe everyone who really wants that freedom on this earth, should have it. I believe in the Spirituality of Abundance is within us all, that I found in a small little book years ago.

I also believe everyone is entitled to that, but the bankers won't let you have it, neither will they give it to you. Like freedom, you need to believe it is your birthright and take it, in an intelligent way of course, that is not self destructive or foolish. If there are enough of us genuine and earnest about all of this, we would without doubt do it intelligently together. The choice is ours but you better be earnest about it, coming from love not hate, as I did in a self destructive, self defeatist way, for so long.

Bobby Sands wrote, we each have our own part to play in all of this, according to our capabilities. Many of us do not have his courage or unselfishness or indeed integrity required for bravery but like he said, we all have a part to play, no matter how small or great. For me in my own tinpot way, it's trying to produce this blog daily. I suggest for a newcomer, you try to find something that you love to do and  do it from the heart. I salute all of you who have worked so tirelessly over the many years while I had to take a break. We need to do this sometimes, to get our strength back As Ruarai O'Bradaigh  used to say, we have such a rich heritage of resistance in Ireland, that is there for inspiration, to anyone, who is in earnest to seek it out. Some of the stalwarts of Irish republicanism are still all around us for inspiration in the meantime.

That title. "The death of Irish Republicanism," what foolish nonsense with such a rich heritage, it can never die, it lives among us daily, consciously or not, it truly is in our blood and DNA. I would also humbly suggest to any newcomer, to choose your leaders wisely. Take the time and care to observe carefully, if they walk the talk and try to place at all times Principles before Personalities. None of us are saints and I certainly never have been, nor do I aspire to be one, so please forgive my human frailties and foolishness as best you can. I didn't mean to ramble on like this. All i wish to add, is that as far as I am concerned, no lover of genuine Irish freedom, engages in censorship. It is the anathema of what I believe genuine freedom is about and I will fight it to my dying breath.

By the way, if you see a busker on the side of an Irish road, whether his music is good or bad, throw him a few bob, if you can spare it, it could be me next time and it will come back to you tenfold, first lesson in the Spirituality of Abundance. There is more than enough for everyone, to travel first class in this world but the money changers will go to war to maintain their privilge, to satisfy their extreme lust for power, that money can create. The same ego abuse, that can drive fake freedom fighters, bringing but momentary satisfaction that is never satisfied. The inspirational leaders like Daithi, Red Sarah and Ruarai which I briefly met, had qualities of humility that truly were spiritually inspiring.

4. Fake Freedom

puppet_master
Faking freedom requires controlling the nodes of power in a society. In this chapter I will analyze our media, political system, justice system, educational system, and healthcare system, breaking down the ways in which each has been corrupted into serving the needs of the Cartel rather than the American people. (National Security is next chapter)

Fake News

[Rockefeller] told his listeners: ‘We are grateful to the Washington Post, The New York Times, Time Magazine, and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost forty years….It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subject to the bright lights of publicity during these years….The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers … is surely preferable to the national autodetermination practiced in the past centuries.’ -1991 issue of the Hilaire duBerrier Report (also reported elsewhere in the French press)
As with our economic and political systems, the face of our media is all about freedom of speech, but behind that facade lies a very deliberate system for controlling information. There are two important facets to this:
1) Making sure the story of the Cartel is not told
2) Crafting propaganda to support whatever agenda is currently on the table.
This is again accomplished through a hierarchical power structure acting on strategic nodes of control. For example, lets say you control the owner of the New York Times, who appoints the top editor, who appoints the lower editors, who determine what gets published. By giving that owner an agenda, it can be passed on to the top editor, who will pass it along to the editorial staff, where it is then expressed in the news consumed by all americans. Those willing to “play ball” move up, and anyone who talks about the establishment can look forward to a tasty mix of unemployment and articles in various respected papers labeling them insane (I should be so lucky!). The result is that although anyone can say anything they want (this blog for example), it’s only permitted on a small scale, and the big media guns are always there to stamp out your message with their media drones. This clip from the Conan O’Brien show illustrates this concept nicely. Watch as so many small fish reveal their marching orders from bigger fish, and how a singular message can be distributed across the country.
Obviously this is a petty example, but you can imagine the impact of say, a story about how Iraq is hiding weapons of mass destruction. Consider the time a single radio host started reporting earth was being invaded by Aliens and it caused widespread panic. And that was just one guy! Imagine if you could push your hoax to every tv channel and every newspaper. The power of media to influence the perception of reality is not to be underestimated, and the Cartel well understands the critical role media plays in their operations. I would go so far as to say it’s the second most important thing behind the money, and only because the money can be used to buy the media. 30 years ago this high level consolidation of power in media was a little tougher to discern, but in the modern era it’s become pretty obvious.
media_consolidation
The net result is that those in power currently have the ongoing ability to craft a picture of reality that sits apart from actual events on the ground. To reference just one recent example, Ex-CNN reporter Amber Lyon revealed that during her work for CNN she received orders to report false storylines in order to push public opinion in favor of war against Iran and Syria. When she refused she was fired. Her story illustrates both important points in one: the ongoing information management as well as the ever-present risk/reward paradigm for “playing ball”. As an example of the reward side of the paradigm, note Mike Wallace of 60 Minutes was recently awarded the Emmy for an interview with Iran’s Ahmadinejad where he blatantly edited around the meaning of what was said to make it look like the opposite.
Make no mistake- this is a problem that exists on all sides of the political spectrum. In fact having contentious arguments across left and right is critical to maintaining the illusion of free speech. But if you look closely, you will see that the evidence I am covering in this essay is never allowed within those debates.
The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum – even encourage the more critical and dissident views. That gives people the sense that there’s free thinking going on, while all the time the presuppositions of the system are being reinforced by the limits put on the range of the debate. -Noam Chomsky
Finally, perhaps the most telling quote of all is from the ignominious Karl Rove, as reported by Ron Suskind.
[Rove] said that guys like me were “in what we call the reality-based community,” which he defined as people who “believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality.” … “That’s not the way the world really works anymore,” he continued. “We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you’re studying that reality—judiciously, as you will—we’ll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that’s how things will sort out. We’re history’s actors…and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do.”

Fake Democracy

“The real truth of the matter is, as you and I know, that a financial element in the large centers has owned the government of the U.S. since the days of Andrew Jackson.” -Franklin Delano Roosevelt
Faking capitalism and freedom of speech was a great success for the bankers, but the success they’ve had faking Democracy is not far behind. Americans are so tied up in knots over their party alliances and the “incompetence” of politicians that they have no idea what’s really going on. So let’s not dance around it: the people who are elected into office are not there to represent you. Nor are the people they appoint.
corruption
So then, how is it possible that a group of people that we elected can act in ways so counter to our own interests? The answer comes down to controlling both our choices, and only offering candidates on each side that have agreed to support the banker’s agenda. This is accomplished rather easily by controlling the flow of money, media coverage, and other brokers of political power. It’s a system built on corruption, and only those willing to serve the establishment are allowed to take part. This is generally known as “playing ball”, and any politician who refuses the game will be quickly driven into irrelevance. The establishment is capable of controlling the political system at all levels, and has grown quite adept at getting the right people elected. Watch this awesome video on how Ron Paul was essentially deleted from the 2012 election, despite massive popularity.
The twisted genius of pretending we have a democracy is that when our representatives fail we have only ourselves to blame. And that’s exactly what Americans do. We blame each other for electing the wrong people, or worse, we justify supporting a candidate we don’t even like just so someone worse won’t get elected. This polarizing phenomena is why we have such bitter political divides in this country despite largely shared core values.
Similarly many people blame our politicians for being incompetent. But as I’ve discussed in my theory of incompetence, absorbing criticism for incompetence is just a method to mask who their dual agenda. Indeed, the conflict between serving the establishment while also appeasing the people requires the very highest level of rhetorical bullshit from our political leaders. Did the American people want to go to war in Iraq? (There’s even a memo where Rumsfeld brainstorms ways to trick us into war. War is extremely profitable for the bankers, but I won’t get into that now) Do the American people support the TSA? Did the American people support torture? Did the American people support removing the right to a trial for Americans? Spying on all cell phone calls? Of course Americans didn’t want those things- they contradict the basic values of peace and freedom outlined in the Constitution. But the establishment wanted those things, so as always our politicians were given the job of selling it to the American people, alternately scaring us or appeasing us with meaningless platitudes.
I have never seen more senators express discontent with their jobs. … I think the major cause is that, deep down in our hearts, we have been accomplices to doing something terrible and unforgivable to this wonderful country. Deep down in our hearts, we know that we have bankrupted America and that we have given our children a legacy of bankruptcy. … We have defrauded our country to get ourselves elected. -Senator John Danforth, April 21, 1992

Fake Justice

When the founding fathers wrote the constitution they decreed that all men are created equal, but that is simply no longer true when it comes to our courts. In our justice system there is one set of rules for the powerful, and another set of rules for the rest of us. Glen Greenwald laid this out nicely in his recent article The Untouchables, covering how the Obama administration has protected Wall Street from prosecution following the financial collapse they caused. Setting that aside, I would like to use therecent HSBC bank ruling as an example, because they didn’t just bend a few rules- they broke almost every law in the book, and on a massive scale.
For at least half a decade, the storied British colonial banking power helped to wash hundreds of millions of dollars for drug mobs, including Mexico’s Sinaloa drug cartel, suspected in tens of thousands of murders just in the past 10 years – people so totally evil, jokes former New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, that “they make the guys on Wall Street look good.” The bank also moved money for organizations linked to Al Qaeda and Hezbollah, and for Russian gangsters; helped countries like Iran, the Sudan and North Korea evade sanctions; and, in between helping murderers and terrorists and rogue states, aided countless common tax cheats in hiding their cash.
“They violated every goddamn law in the book,” says Jack Blum, an attorney and former Senate investigator who headed a major bribery investigation against Lockheed in the 1970s that led to the passage of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. “They took every imaginable form of illegal and illicit business.”
That nobody from the bank went to jail or paid a dollar in individual fines is nothing new in this era of financial crisis. What is different about this settlement is that the Justice Department, for the first time, admitted why it decided to go soft on this particular kind of criminal. It was worried that anything more than a wrist slap for HSBC might undermine the world economy. “Had the U.S. authorities decided to press criminal charges,” said Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer at a press conference to announce the settlement, “HSBC would almost certainly have lost its banking license in the U.S., the future of the institution would have been under threat and the entire banking system would have been destabilized.”
So to review, for laundering drug cartel money, committing massive fraud, and funding terrorism and known murderers, nobody went to jail and they only had to pay a fine equivalent to 2 months salary. Contrast that to one of countless stories about regular folks being imprisoned for life over petty offenses. Take for example this story, about a man who grew medical marijuanain accordance with state law, but is now being put in jail for the rest of his life. How does that make any sense? The mass incarceration of our people is an ongoing tragedy, with so so many lives ruined over the smallest of infractions. The prison industry has become big business in our society, and the US boasts the highest rate of incarcerated Citizens in the entire world.
global_incarceration_rates
The Cartel has allowed the burgeoning prison industry because it gives them even more control over the population. Knowing you could be put in jail for a minor infraction is a powerful deterrent to speaking out against the establishment. This has nothing to do with justice; at the top level it’s about control, and at the lower levels it’s about making money.
u-s-incarceration-rates
Whistleblowers are also a prime target for incarceration. Bradley Manning has been in solitary confinement for years now, stripped of his clothes and his sanity, for revealing information that did nothing to harm national security but did reveal aspects of the story the Cartel does not allow. Same with John Kiriakouwho blew the whistle on the CIA’s illegal rendition program. The message being sent is loud and clear: Mess with us and we will make your life a nightmare. It’s not worth it. Stop asking questions and go back to work.

Fake Education

Our educational system has not been spared in the propagandistic representation of reality being foisted on us by the cartel. From textbooks to research papers, the game is played the same way- follow the rules and you move up, try to do the right thing and you will be fired. From a recent article in the Huffington post:
The Federal Reserve, through its extensive network of consultants, visiting scholars, alumni and staff economists, so thoroughly dominates the field of economics that real criticism of the central bank has become a career liability for members of the profession, an investigation by the Huffington Post has found.
And of course we shouldn’t be surprised to see how this power is distributed:
One critical way the Fed exerts control on academic economists is through its relationships with the field’s gatekeepers. For instance, at the Journal of Monetary Economics, a must-publish venue for rising economists, more than half of the editorial board members are currently on the Fed payroll — and the rest have been in the past.
Another tragic aspect to the corruption of our educational institutions is the staggering amount of debt students are being burdened with. Debt is how the bankers control people, and younger genrations are being paralyzed. College tuition has increased a mind-boggling 1,210% in 30 years. The average debt of college graduates is a staggering $13,600, growing at 2.1% beyond inflation since 2005.

Students who acquire large debts putting themselves through school are unlikely to think about changing society. When you trap people in a system of debt they can’t afford the time to think. -Noam Chomsky

Fake Healthcare

I am not suggesting we don’t have great doctors. We do. But over time our healthcare system has transitioned from treating patients to treating profits, and the cost of healthcare has now reached the point where we are facing a true crisis.
Some 80 million people, around 43% of America’s working-age adults, didn’t go to the doctor or access other medical services last year because of the cost -Biennial Health Insurance Survey
Steven Brill recently wrote an insightful analysis of this ongoing tragedy, illustrating in vivid detail how our healthcare system preys upon the sick, charging them exorbitant prices they cannot refuse, burying them in debt, and often refusing treatment over lack of funds.
Sean was held for about 90 minutes in a reception area, she says, because the hospital could not confirm that the check had cleared. Sean was allowed to see the doctor only after he advanced MD Anderson $7,500 from his credit card. The hospital says there was nothing unusual about how Sean was kept waiting. According to MD Anderson communications manager Julie Penne, “Asking for advance payment for services is a common, if unfortunate, situation that confronts hospitals all over the United States.” The total cost, in advance, for Sean to get his treatment plan and initial doses of chemotherapy was $83,900.
Brill’s article continues, talking about how the medical industry has turned into big business, placing money in the hands of businessmen while burying patients and even Doctors in massive debt.
The president of MD Anderson is paid like someone running a prosperous business. Ronald DePinho’s total compensation last year was $1,845,000. That does not count outside earnings derived from a much publicized waiver he received from the university that, according to the Houston Chronicle, allows him to maintain unspecified “financial ties with his three principal pharmaceutical companies.” DePinho’s salary is nearly triple the $674,350 paid to William Powers Jr., the president of the entire University of Texas system, of which MD Anderson is a part.
lacking_medical_coverage
Brill continues, detailing just how unbelievable our health care costs have become, telling the story of a woman charged $25,000 for a diagnosis of heartburn.
According to one of a series of exhaustive studies done by the McKinsey & Co. consulting firm, we spend more on health care than the next 10 biggest spenders combined: Japan, Germany, France, China, the U.K., Italy, Canada, Brazil, Spain and Australia. We may be shocked at the $60 billion price tag for cleaning up after Hurricane Sandy. We spent almost that much last week on health care. We spend more every year on artificial knees and hips than what Hollywood collects at the box office. We spend two or three times that much on durable medical devices like canes and wheelchairs, in part because a heavily lobbied Congress forces Medicare to pay 25% to 75% more for this equipment than it would cost at Walmart.
So who’s setting these prices? Apparently it’s a faceless position called “The Chargemaster”.
The price is the problem. Stamford Hospital spokesman Scott Orstad told me that the $199.50 figure for the troponin test was taken from what he called the hospital’s chargemaster. The chargemaster, I learned, is every hospital’s internal price list. Decades ago it was a document the size of a phone book; now it’s a massive computer file, thousands of items long, maintained by every hospital. Stamford Hospital’s chargemaster assigns prices to everything, including Janice S.’s blood tests. It would seem to be an important document. However, I quickly found that although every hospital has a chargemaster, officials treat it as if it were an eccentric uncle living in the attic. Whenever I asked, they deflected all conversation away from it. They even argued that it is irrelevant. I soon found that they have good reason to hope that outsiders pay no attention to the chargemaster or the process that produces it. For there seems to be no process, no rationale, behind the core document that is the basis for hundreds of billions of dollars in health care bills.
The bottom line is that this is an industry completely lacking proper supervision, and it has become viciously dangerous to the physical and financial health of our population. Just like the Justice system and the Educational system, these are institutions that have turned against the American people.
Make no mistake- we are all under attack.

The Lower Ormeau Road -

A Community In Grief

Anthony McIntyre

An Phoblacht/Republican News

13.02.92

Anthony McIntyre, a republican prisoner serving a life sentence in the H-Blocks of Long Kesh, lived in the Lower Ormeau Road community up until his arrest in 1976 and retains his association with its people. He writes here of the impact of the UFF murders of five men at Graham's Bookie's shop on February 5th, and of the tragic history of a besieged community.

Cordite, its stench still bitter in the nostrils, bodies still warm, blood yet to dry and coagulate, moans of the wounded and dying, and the wails of misery filled relatives combined to form the scene of utter carnage that Joyce McCarten walked away from on Wednesday, February 5th, as she accompanied and comforted a grieving woman who has just been told her brother had died.

Even prior to the slaughter at the bookie's, the Lower Ormeau Road had been touched by tragedy. One of the victims of RUC assassin, Alan Moore, at the Sinn Fein centre on the Falls Road the day previous, Pat McBride, left a girlfriend, Bernie McDaid, and a young son, Patrick, both members of that small community.

The scenes flashed to us on the TV screen from the junction of Hatfield Street and the Ormeau Road were profoundly disturbing. The close-knit nature of the community and its familiarity with loyalist devastation were poignantly and all to evidently captured in the physical presence of those standing shocked and numbed. Joyce McCarten is a human encyclopaedia of suffering and loss due to loyalism. Her son Gary shot dead by the UVF in May 1987; brother-in-law Noel gunned down outside the studios of UTV in March 1974 by the same group; other family members slain over the years, including one mutilated to death by Albert 'Ginger' Baker - a 1970s Brian Nelson.

Alec McManus, leading a distraught relative away from the horror. Outwardly stoical and calm he was aware that his own brother Willie lay dead a few yards behind him; another brother Jim critically injured and his nephew Paul Kennedy - son of his sister Jean whose own husband Billy lost an arm in a UVF bomb attack on the Rose and Crown Bar, a mere twenty yards from the bookie's - wounded also. In 1973 I stood beside Alec McManus as he buried his fiance, Eileen Doherty from Slieveban Drive in Andersonstown. After shooting her dead in the Ormeau area the UFF claimed she had formed part of a guard of honour at the funeral of IRA volunteer Jim Bryson the previous month. The only funeral attended by Eileen that autumn was her own. UFF statements count for nothing to the residents of the Lower Ormeau Road.

The Lower Ormeau Road is a small enclave situated in South Belfast, territorially bordered by the River Lagan on one side and the Belfast to Dublin rail link on the other. Isolated and vulnerable it is in the middle of an otherwise orange monolith, pressed in to varying degrees by Donegal Pass, Sandy Row, the Village, Annadale Flats and the sprawling East Belfast complex. An exclusively Protestant area, the B-Specials and Orange Order flourished up until the 1950s when its first Catholic residents began to filter in. Even then this tiny trickle was regarded as an intrusion.

Our own two-up-two-down terraced home in Bagot Street along with the homes of other Catholic families had its doors daubed with the sinister 'X'. Gradually, Protestants began to drift out of the area not as refugees but of their own volition as modern housing and better living conditions enticed them to greener pastures. A steady stream of young Catholics stating out in married life took up residence in the recently vacated inferior houses. This gradual but persistent demographic shift changed the social complexion of the Lower Ormeau Road. Today there exists an identifiable Nationalist community. Yet the area is not exclusively Catholic. A number of Protestants live there or have small businesses about the road. They feel quite safe. They are quite safe.

It was within this diminutive collection of narrow streets that four of the dead had strong roots. Willie McManus, Jack Duffin, Christy Doherty and Peter 'Twin' Magee were known to almost everyone in the district. Young James Kennedy came from its cousin enclave, the Markets. Innocent, harmless people, hemmed into the bookie's by the social oppressiveness of unemployment, they were killed for being there. People pushed from pillar to post by the structures of a hideously sectarian society and state. A state which had no difficulty in making its presence felt to chase punters out of the bookie's in order not to 'provoke' triumphalist Orange bands as they saunter and strut their way through the area, was conspicuous by the lack of protection it afforded the punters once the music had died.

In such a context bitterness and sorrow, grief and sorrow, anguish and pain make themselves felt. Some of those not rendered dumb by the enormity and gravity of it all spoke in sombre tones, their voices heavy with anger. They were clearly stunned and displayed some difficulty in comprehending just what had happened.

In the midst of all this it was somewhat puzzling to listen to Alisdair McDonnell of the SDLP attempt to blame republicans for the awful events of that afternoon, adding legitimacy in a perhaps unintended sort of way to the stated UFF rationale. Sinn Fein were not permitted to say anything in response. But I suspect had they said anything their comments would have been grief-laden and not the petty political point scoring utterances of Alisdair McDonnell. Even the spokesman for the Workers' Party , regardless of his political perspective, chose not to harangue republicans but rather spoke in terms of grief, loss and human suffering. But like the victims and the censored members of Sinn Fein, he lives in the area and understandably feels the grief and bitterness of a bereaved community. Unlike Alisdair McDonnell, his association with the area is one of residence and shared experience.

The UFF in their post-massacre message said 'Remember Teebane'. But no one forgets Teebane, nor do they need the UFF or Alasdair McDonnell to remind them. When human life is lost on such a monumental scale, irrespective of who sustained it or who inflicted it, people do remember. But the people of the Lower Ormeau Road were being butchered by loyalism long before Teebane. The UVF bombing of the Rose and Crown Bar in May 1974 in which six people lost their lives, was seventeen years prior to Teebane. Neither James Kennedy nor Peter Magee were born when loyalists claimed their first victim in Belmore Street - Robert 'Scruff' Millen. The UFF are not interested in facts - just excuses.

Sectarian attacks on the beleaguered community in the Lower Ormeau Road are part of an ongoing twenty-year campaign by loyalism to hammer the community into abject submission. There is nothing new about them. They have failed. They will continue to fail. But it is incumbent on the community in that area to not only ensure that loyalism does not win in its endeavour to secure submission but to equally ensure that no more nationalists become its victims.

But the lessening of the community's vulnerability to sectarian attack shall not be secured through increased activity on the part of the RUC and the UDR. The latter in particular make no attempt to hide their sectarianism; threats of assassination by the UFF and the UVF are issued regularly from their mouths. The community can only protect itself. The presence of the RUC and UDR serves not to protect nationalists or deter loyalists - it only means that those capable of providing any defence are denied the means to do so through fear of arrest or shoot-to-kill. Arguments that a withdrawal from the area by the RUC and the UDR would only lead to 'gun-law' do not make sense. What we have at present is gun-law. The RUC/UDR/UFF make armed forays at will and without fear of prosecution.

As the state will not withdraw its sectarian forces some limited but practical measures must be taken. Vigilance must be increased and maintained at a permanently high level. People should work together as a community to secure their houses, watch their places of leisure and entertainment. Concerned political parties and community activists must make it their duty to actively advise the people on very aspect of personal community security. Nobody should be caught out as a result of complacency.

At this point in time the heartfelt sympathy of every nationalist prisoner in these wings lies with the families and friends of the deceased. To those fighting for life in hospital and the less seriously injured we send you our strongest support and solidarity. To the entire community of the Lower Ormeau Road we extend our condolences.

Hold Firm.

Jack,

I've just had the extraordinary experience of listening to your interview on NPR's "On the Media," and I'm amazed again at your shamelessness. You've discovered that Anthony McIntyre is "an individual from Northern Ireland with a long criminal record" and that "his work was very weak." Did you or any of your colleagues notice any of that during theperiod of years that Boston College contracted with him, paid him, and took his work into your archive? Did you notice any of that during the years that you boasted about the project to faculty and staff in the BC Chronicle, and during the years when Thomas Hachey and Robert O'Neill wrote the introduction to Ed Moloney's book and took a shareof the royalties? The project began in 2001; in 2014, a university suddenly discovers that, my goodness, one of the researchers we hired had a criminal record? Poor dear, did you clutch your pearls?

If NPR had interviewers who were sentient -- I'm not holding my breath -- the follow-up question would have been, "If all of that is true, why did you hire him and continue to work with him?" Lucky for you to have an exchange with a mediocre interviewer, the only kind who would ever believe anything you say.

I invite you, or anyone at BC, to answer this question: If you regard Anthony McIntyre as "an individual...with a long criminal record" whose work "was very weak," why did Boston College hire him, pay him, and archive his work? Do you not notice that if your claim is true, you've damned the organization and oversight of a project that your university sponsored? Why, gasp, this person is a convicted criminal who does shoddy work, says...the university that hired him.

Yet again, I'm embarrassed for you.

Chris Bray

Spiritual Excellence
How to Attract Abundance, Spiritual Success Tip #1: Appreciate Others
by IHSAN on MARCH 10, 2011

The act of appreciating another is one of the most powerful ways to not only transcend the self and overcome the ego, but also one of the most effective ways to attract goodness and abundance into your life.

Commonly known as the Golden Rule, which is generally paraphrased as “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” desiring and appreciating the good fortune of another is so important that it may even be said to lead to the essence of true belief.

“And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.” — Jesus

“That which you want for yourself, seek for mankind.”

“The most righteous of believers is the one who is glad that others should have what is pleasing to himself, and who dislikes for others what for him is disagreeable.”
Quote of  Muhammad

That this is fundamentally the goal of spirituality is demonstrated beautifully in the movie The Book of Eli, where true belief is contrasted with hypocrisy, and Eli, the messenger and servant of truth, ultimately summarizes the core lesson of the spiritual path as simply, “Want for your brother what you want for yourself.”

“Want for your brother what you want for yourself. At least that’s what I got out of it.” — Quote of Eli (The Book of Eli)

The Problem of Egoism and Selfishness

The fundamental spiritual problem that plagues humanity is egoism, or selfishness. And the laws of life are such that they are designed to propel us towards growth, evolution, progress and ultimately the transcendence of egoism and selfishness.

One consequence of being self-centered, perpetually fixated on oneself and one’s needs and desires, while being blind and oblivious to the desire for the same good for others, is that it actually repels rather than attracts good from coming to us.

We all suffer from the problem of ego, so it’s nothing personal. What we choose to do about it is what matters. By becoming attached to our faults and identifying with them, we get stuck in them and fail to transcend them. Yet by consciously acknowledging a personal defect, rather than ignoring or suppressing it, we become capable of simply letting it go. In fact, the simple act of acknowledgement and bringing to awareness already begins the process of dissociation, or detachment.

“The next time you think your perfect, try walking on water.” — Bumper Sticker

Personal Inventory. How Do You Feel?

What do you feel when you see someone who has been blessed with something you want and that you may currently lack, such as good health, abundant wealth or a joyful relationship? Are you appreciative and grateful for the good that another has been given, or do you feel jealous, envious, resentful and angry?

Did you know that feelings of jealousy, envy or bitterness will actually repel rather than attract abundance and prosperity to you? It’s true, and making a conscious choice about how you choose to feel in such a situation can make a critical difference with regards to the possibility of you ever getting what you want in your own life.

When we feel jealous or envious, we are essentially affirming scarcity, and we are saying, with our emotions, that we do not have. This energetic exclamation of lack prevents having, for if we believe that we do not have a thing, how can we ever attract it?

By being appreciative of the good that others have and that you may currently lack, you are in effect affirming prosperity and attracting abundance to yourself through a prosperity consciousness, a reality and paradigm based in Truth and reflective of true belief in the Divine, in the goodness and infinite bounty, abundance and grace of God.

Weeding out such negative thoughts and beliefs from our souls is a fundamental teaching of Sufism, the path of self-purification and the spiritual dimension of the religion of Islam. For the harm of jealousy and envy, known as hasad in Arabic, is so great that an entire chapter of the Holy Qur’an is essentially a prayer of protection from its evil.

Attract Abundance: Appreciate Others

To come into alignment with Truth and enter into harmony with Life, CONSCIOUSLY PRACTICE APPRECIATING OTHERS. When you see a good quality in another, take a brief moment to to acknowledge that good without feeling lack, without feeling jealous or envious.

As an exercise, seek evidence of what you want and what is good in others. Affirm their existence and the possibility of you coming into vibrational harmony with them by going out of your way to appreciate in others what you currently lack.

Look at those with great health, abundant resources, healthy relationships and anything that is a favor from God with gratitude and appreciation, and simply say masha’llah, God has willed such. Become self-less, and so become purified of ego.

Let feelings of love and gratitude dominate your consciousness and define your state. Soon, you will begin becoming part of the very things you appreciate and they will naturally gravitate towards you, attracting them to yourself because you are now emitting attractive positive emotions rather than repulsive negative emotions.

Our world is changing, and we have the opportunity to change for the better. There is a new possibility, a new world, coming into existence. This new earth is based in love, not hate, in cooperation and compassion, not competition, in abundance and prosperity, not lack and scarcity.

Now, more than ever, it is imperative that we address the spiritual diseases that plague our souls. There is a divine will, a divine purpose, for humanity that we become the honored and noble servants and representatives of the Almighty. And life will continuously encourage us to become more self-less, less self-centered, and ultimately learn to leave the ego behind so we can embrace our divine destiny.

I beleive it helps transcend the one who is appreciated as well as the other who appreciates, especially when that which is appreciated is of true virtue. I certainly appreciate the message of your article and your faith in such laws, both are an inspiration to follow.
